Thrift find and thanks to my good friend Vicki

So my good friend Vicki took me out today to shop and thrift and get my mind off of the fun stuff going on next week.  We looked at jewelry non stop and wound up the afternoon at one of our favorite thrift stores.. known as " The Hole"  we looked around and did not see much.  I checked the jewelry counter and this caught my eye:

It is a Weiss Candlestick Christmas tree pin from 1950 price under $4.00.  It is a great find and will be a wonderful addition to my Christmas jewelry collection.  So a great day out ended with a tremendous find.  Thank you for being a such a supportive and good friend Vicki.  You can borrow my pin anytime.

Freak out

Monday is the day for out with the bad knee in with the new.  I'm ready and I will admit anxious.

It will be the St. James Infirmary around Junking in Georgia for a time.  I am going in for new parts.  I have gimped around on awful knees for a long time... the good old bone on bone .. which is trust me not at all fun.  So next Monday it is time for some replacement parts.  My right knee will have a compartmental replacement and they will take some "hardware" out of my left knee in order to make a total replacement of it in the future easier.  The road to less pain is through some more pain .. it will be worth it after it is all over... thank goodness I have only two knees!  I will spend this week being anxious * I am very good at it.. so I will post when I can... I have a good doctor and good health insurance and plan to do all the PT and recover as quickly as I can.. I will be reading my favorite blogs and commenting if I say anything crazy let's just say it is the pain meds.. come on, pain meds!  please don't forget about Junking in Georgia while I am away and as always take care

Halloween Week Friday Happy Halloween

Friday before the big trick or treat day, and I hope you have all your treats ready.  This year we'll not be home to see all the cute little ones of our neighborhood.  Friends are hosting a Halloween house party at their new house so that is were we will be for the weekend.  Around here lights on are the sign to come to trick or treat so we will leave the house dark and trust our neighbors will keep an eye on it.  Things are usually pretty tame no nasty tricks that I can remember.

Halloween Week Thursday

 

My kitchen windows sport small beings at Halloween and at Christmas.  At other times of the year you are more likely to find them decorated with dust.  I do try to run the swifter along them at least once a week.. don't want anyone to think I am a poor housekeeper... 

Halloween Week Wed.

The old Halloween die cuts I found at the local thrift back in September have made my kitchen window a fun spot this Halloween.  The ghostly hands in the right of the picture just materialized .. the unexplained happens at this time of year doesn't it?  The wall you see in the background came down this week.. thanks to a bobcat and some hard working landscapers .. it is to be replaced by a more attractive stone wall. Looks as if I need to change a light bulb as well..

Haunted Southern Manse for the Birds

We here in the South have many haunted places.  Roswell, Georgia has some buildings that were standing during the Battle of Atlanta that were turned into hospitals for the wounded.  Given the fact that Civil War treatment wasn't a sure bet for recovery ... the buildings are reported to be haunted.  I have posted about the haunted plantation in St. Francesville LA.  It does have a strange atmosphere.  I cannot say that I would like to be there on a dark night.  While I honestly must confess I do not think there are any ghosts, it is rather fun to think about historic old places having holds on people who refuse to leave them even after they crossed over to the other side.

The Year is Passing by so quickly

With the few remaining home magazines coming to my mailbox this week, the November issues bring home the fact that the year is coming to a close.  The holidays will be here very soon... a statement that can cause all our hearts to beat faster.  That is always the case even though we all know they are coming each year they seem to sneak up don't they?  We came down from the mountain yesterday after three days of perfect fall weather full of color and sunshine. I have enjoyed having my friend here for the week... she heads home tomorrow.  We'll take a box of shopping finds by the PO to mail to herself since her suitcase doesn't have room. We have been busy and both have begun that holiday shopping task.  Yesterday we stopped at a little shop called Bessie May's full of handmade items. My friend bought some catnip to take to a Chicago kitty she knows.  It was in her suitcase when my cat pack detected it.  They swiped it chewed off the cover and partied down.  I found the stolen cat nip when I noticed my big yellow cat on his back acting silly.  That's one less item to pack. Today we plan to make the local round of thrift shops time for my friend to see these places she's heard about.  Since the weekend is coming, the weather man is saying lots of rain is coming our way.  Oh, and have you got your Halloween costume ready?  October 31st is one week from Saturday. Yikes!  Daylight savings time will end as well.  Time does fly.
